Headaches have many causes, and chiropractors are trained to help identify what might be causing yours. A common headache pattern we see is cervicogenic headaches, which is the medical term for a headache arising from your neck. Yes- your neck might be the culprit!
When we repetitively look down at screens, phones and iPads, we overwork the little muscles that link our skulls to our necks. Our neck joints can become stiff as a result. Sometimes the natural wear and tear processes in our bodies can contribute to this stiffness.
How we can help
Chiropractors are highly trained to help unwind the cumulative effects of stiff muscles and joints, making them happier to do what they were designed to do, that is moving!
We use various techniques that help, like neck and upper back spinal adjustments (where chiropractors apply a quick pressure through a joint to restore its natural motion), dry needling (where we stimulate tight spots in muscles with acupuncture needles) and ischaemic compression (where we use our hands to soften through tight tendons and muscles).
Some people might feel hesitant to have their neck ‘clicked’, rest assured that our therapists’ will work with you to find treatment methods that suit you best.
We know that with chronic headaches, a collaborative approach works best. We may suggest some simple lifestyle changes to support your recovery. These might include exercises to strengthen weak neck and upper back muscles, postural advice, stretches for home or specific supplements.
